Functional Capacity Evaluations

Our clinic conducts Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs).  An FCE is an evaluation tool to identify an individual’s functional ability or limitations in the context of safe, productive work activities. The evaluation provides the client’s maximum and frequent job tolerances to ensure safe and appropriate job placement.  This evaluation is usually requested by employers, physicians, case managers, attorneys, or insurance companies.

The evaluation can be conducted in a ½ day, full day or multi-day format depending on the customer’s identified needs.

The evaluation assesses multiple areas of function including:

  • High lifting
  • Squatting
  • Carrying
  • Pushing/Pulling
  • Stair climbing
  • Ambulation tolerance
  • Hand/Finger dexterity

The FCE also screens repetitive positional tolerances in a variety of actions such as:

  • Standing
  • Kneeling
  • Overhead reaching/dexterity
  • Ladder work
  • Balance work
  • Crawling
  • Sitting

The evaluation has the capacity to identify consistency of effort provided by client through a variety of subtests and observations.

A formal and thorough report of objective findings and recommendations will provided to requesting party within 48 hours of evaluation.
